General considerations:

Mules are very strong animals that could carry over hundred kilos without problems. They have been used by the Argentine Army to carry big loads in difficult mountain terrain since our national hero, General Don Jose de San Martin, have crossed the Andes to defeat the Spanish Crown; unfortunately during that expedition hundreds of animals died due the big effort.

In order to keep our animal’s life, the mountain enviroment, and the safe of your transported loads, we only put sixty kilos of load on each animal, the ones, plus the twenty kilos of the saddle makes around eighty kilos in total. That’s why we kindly request not to bring heavier bags than 30 kilos each; as the load should be balanced with a maximum of 30 kilos each side of the animal; making the total of 60.

Depending the Valley (Horcones or Vacas) they could trot 100 kilometres in one day (roughly 12 / 14 hours). Of course after that length trip, the animal should rest at least two days before work again. They are feed with green fresh grass from the surroundings hills, dried alfalfa, oats and maize seeds.

The mules drivers or “Arrieros” are hard people used to live on the countryside and deal with animals. They shouldn’t work each of them with more than 3 loaded mules at the same time, in order to preserve the safety of your transported loads.

Our animals are placed at Los Penitentes Village, exactly in Ayelen Hotel area located over the International Road to Chile just a few kilometres from the Aconcagua Provincial Park Entrances of Horcones Valley and Vacas Valley.
