About Aconcagua

The highest mountain of the American Continent

The Aconcagua Mountain with his 6962 meters above sea level is with no doubt the highest mountain of the American Continent. That’s why part of the “Seven Summits Circuit” is (consistent in climbing all the highest points of each continent) and is well known worldwide.

It is located entirely in Argentine territory, in the Province of Mendoza, Las Heras Department. Being not part of any International Border, as many publications have said in the past.

Its co-ordinates are 59* 69’ West longitude and 32* 39’ South latitude.

The Aconcagua Mountain is inside the "Aconcagua Provincial Park"; and limits with the Horcones Valley to the West and Southwest and the Vacas Valley to the East and North.

His name has different meanings; been the more known:

"El Centinela Blanco" (The White Sentinel) in Quechua language and "El Centinela de Piedra" (The Stone Sentinel) in Aymara language.

To get into the Aconcagua Provincial Park, you must get a climbing permit during the Official season.

It should be get personally at the "Direccion de Recursos Naturales Renovables" office, located at Mendoza city downtown.

Once there, you should fill a form with all the required information and pay the right fee. The "Climbing" permit gives you the right to attempt the climb to the top of the mountain within duration of 20 days.

The prices for the season 2009 - 2010 have been establish in three different seasons in relation with your entrance date to the Aconcagua Park:

  • From November 15 till November 30 - arg $ 600 per person, (about U$S 150)
  • From December 01 till December 14 - arg $ 1200 per person, (about U$S 300)
  • From December 15 till January 31 - arg $ 1800 per person, (about U$S 450)
  • From February 01 till February 20 - arg $ 1200 per person
  • From February 21 till March 15 - arg $ 600 per person
  • Argentine peso exchange rate against dollar: 1 US$ = 3,9 Arg$

Climbing fees can change from year to year without previous notice, and those are beyond our control..
